Writing ideas preserved in writing notebooks and digital cameras leave travelling writers free to dream says Rob Hopcott

There are two important things I have to remember when I go anywhere, my digital camera and my writer’s notebook. My camera records anything that takes my fancy for later use in an article or a story and my writing notebooks record my writing ideas, embryonic or otherwise.

Failure to take my digital camera on my travels can mean that I might have to spend very costly diesel to return to a location for a snap that ’says it all’ - only to find the object has gone!

Leaving my writing diary at home means that I could spend all day trying to remember some ideas for writing that strike me without warning and then niggle me constantly until I get back only to find they have now disappeared and no amount of brain cudgelling will make them return.

There is a simple joy in being able to write down my writing ideas as they surface and then feel free to dream on, comfortable in the knowledge they will be there in my writing journal for later when I need them.

However, if I’m out with others, occasionally my frequent note taking in my writing diaries can be irritating. To learn more you may like to read my short flash humorous story about Shops and Retail Therapy :-)

Do you keep writing notebooks and have you ever lost one with a juicy plot planning something awful like a murder?

I’d love to hear about your experiences below in the comments section.

Bye for now
